About the Workshop

An intensive course on Fundamentals and Applications of Photonic crystals and Metamaterials will be conducted between 04 to 08 October 2021 at IIIT Allahabad. The program will be specifically useful for persons who are concerned with Photonics and Optical properties of structured composite materials also known Metamaterials, in Research and Industry as well as training/teaching of students/ personnel. Although IIIT Allahabad is working in this area, and recognized internationally. The course is designed to cater to the needs of teachers from Science & Engineering Institutions, scientists from R & D labs and practicing engineers from industry, and students. It aims to equip the participants with an essential knowledge of the area.

Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIITA) located in Jhalwa, Allahabad, UP, India was established in 1999, as a center of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas and is an institute of national importance by the act of parliament. IIIT-A aims to evolve an integrated ambiance of creative learning, researching for novelties, contributing to the growth of knowledge, mapping the knowledge into innovations, innovations in terms of innovative products, services and also in terms of re-engineering the education process itself, devising the newer tools and sophisticating the skills at higher level.

Photonics and Metamaterials have captured the public imagination due to the exceptionally attractive applications that were claimed for them. After intense research in the last decade, the field of Photonic Crystals and metamaterials have now become quite mature and several commercial products and applications are now coming out of these concepts. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the basic physical principles. The course will give an exposure to the computational design and simulations of Photonic crystals and metamaterials.
